The Knox Waterless was first introduced in 1900 in the USA. The vehicle was called a “Waterless” as instead of being powered by a water cooled engine it used an air cooled 4 hp single cylinder engine that had two inch pins screwed into the cylinder, (This also earned it the name “Old Porcupine”) Compared to most other vehicles at the time the Knox Waterless was an exceptionally high vehicle which enabled its passengers to stay dry and clean when driving through mud and puddles. The vehicle ceased manufacture in 1903 when the company turned to making 4-wheeled vehicles only.
